infobox coming later The Pokémon Trading Card Game (Japanese: ポケモンカードGB Pokémon Card GB) is a video game based on the tabletop card game Pokémon Trading Card Game and the Pokémon franchise. It released in December 1998 in Japan before being released in the US 2 years later. It was developed by Nintendo and Hudson Soft.

The game follows the player, named Mark by default, on a journey to claim the Legendary Pokémon Cards, which can only be obtained by collecting 8 badges in clubs and defeating the Grand Masters, in a similar way to the Gyms and Elite Four in the Pokémon main series.

The game is split between two sections; a top-down view of the world, and battle stages.

The topdown view is one similar to the main Pokémon games and other RPGs. The player can move around and challenge other NPC characters. When exiting an area, the player will face a map which he or she can move around, in which different places may be selected; such as the clubs, the Pokémon Dome, and the Mason Laboratory, where the player starts and where he or she can build decks.

The battle stages are the main part of the game. It is played very similarly to the actual Pokémon TCG. The game itself is mostly explained here.

The character will be faced with a rival, Ronald, during various stages in the game. The player can earn various cards throughout the game, some promotional. The player can build decks, battle players, and earn cards through Card Pop! using the Game Boy Color's infrared system.
